Woof Pack

Who We Are

Satchel's Last Resort Woof Pack Program

The goal of the Woof Pack Program is to provide all the dogs at Satchel's with one on one
human companionship and training to make them more adoptable and/or to give them the
best quality of life available.

What We Do

Requirements to become a Leader:

Six months or 100 hours of volunteering with Satchel's as part of our dog walking team.

  • Commit to spending a minimum of 2 visits per week with your pack member. Visits can
range from 60 minutes to overnight stays.
  • Commit to bringing your pack member to adoption offsite events if s/he is deemed a
    Satchel's offsite event dog.

Expectations of a Leader:

  • Spend a minimum of 2 visits per week with your pack leader. Visits can range from 60
    minutes to overnight stays.
  • Encourage other volunteers to get to know and spend time with your Woof Pack dog. This
is very important for your Woof Pack dog's socialization training.
  • Use the "Woof Pack" time slots on the scheduling link when planning to spend an hour or
more at Satchel's with your pack member.
  • Post photos on the FB Volunteer page of the visits with your pack member.
  • At a minimum, provide monthly updates on your pack member's progress.
  • Report any changes in your pack member's physical or emotional being. Such physical
changes may include diarrhea, lumps and bumps, suspected ear infection, limps.
Emotional well-being change would be noticed by a temperament decline, which could be
caused by a physical issue or stress due to changes or many other factors that affect
    shelter dogs.

Suggested Visits:

  • Time in the small yards working on basic training - sit, stay, down, shake.
  • Time in the larger yards working on such training as recall.
  • Time in the larger yards teaching play and showing the dog how to have fun - throwing
    the tennis balls for example.
  • Car rides to teach basic manners in the car as well as giving them some mental
    stimulation viewing the outside world.
  • Take your pack member to other approved sites for walks. NOTE: Depending on the dog's
temperament and history, different sites will be approved for each dog.
  • Take your pack member home for an afternoon visit to hang out on the couch, go for a
swim in your pool, or simply do some sunbathing. This will tell us how the dog is in a home
and give them a reprieve from shelter life.
  • Take your pack member home for an overnight visit. Again, this will tell us how the dog is
in a home and give them a much-needed reprieve from shelter life.
